The Kingston Burrowes Community Fund

To celebrate 10 years in business, Bruce Burrowes founder of Kingston Burrowes Accountants, decided it was time to give something back to the local community that has helped him grow from a sole trader to where he is today, an independent accountancy firm with staff across three branches in Kingston, Surbiton and Wimbledon.

In July 2018 Bruce launched his community fund, open to local groups and charities based in the boroughs of Merton and Kingston to apply for a share of the £1000 fund.

We are pleased to confirm the projects that received funds from the Kingston Burrowes Community Fund are;

Express CIC, a local ‘not for profit’ community organisation providing support and services to
young people with autism and their families. The grant will specifically fund T-shirts for the children who attend their group activities, to instil and sense of pride, belonging and inclusiveness to the members of the groups.

Merton Centre for Independent Living, an organisation run by and for Deaf and Disabled people living within Merton. The grant will help fund their monthly Craftivism and Chat group which offers peer support and consultation opportunities to feedback on local services and community activities. Increasing their involvement in the local community as well as reducing the feelings of isolation through social interactions.

Friends of Berrylands Nature Reserve , a recently formed group who aim to improve the reserve for the benefit of the community and wildlife. The fund will enable the group to purchase its first 3 pairs of waders so that they can safely conserve and manage the waterways. Allowing volunteers to safely enter the local stream and ponds to remove invasive pond weeds and algae as well as litter!

The friends of Hillcross Primary School who have created a ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) room to provide pupils with a relaxing, inviting space to explore their feelings with trained staff and develop their social skills. The grant will be used to furnish the room with a rug and cushions, specifically designed to support and encourage pupils to express and discuss their feelings through interactive play.

Bruce said, “I would like to thank everyone who applied, we wish we could have supported them all, there are so many amazing and worthwhile causes in our local area. I hope that our fund will help these four groups achieve their goals, I feel privileged to have been able to support them”
